Lucara Diamond Corp has recovered four large, gem-quality diamonds from its Karowe mine in Botswana, adding to a long list of premium rough so far unearthed from the mine.
The diamonds, alongside several smaller +10.8-carat diamonds of high value, were retrieved from the direct milling of EM/PK(S) kimberlite ore from the South Lobe during a recent production run.
Among the recovered diamonds is a 320-carat, gem-quality top light brown diamond, a 111-carat diamond described as a magnificent type IIA white stone of high quality; and two +50-carat type IIA white diamonds.
William Lamb, president and CEO of Lucara, said this recent recovery of high-grade rough diamonds further validates the quality and potential of the Karowe mine and reaffirms Lucara’s reputation as a producer of large high-quality gem diamonds. Karowe mine is 100-per cent owned by Lucara.
This likewise reinforces the development of the underground mine at Karowe, which will target over 95 per cent EM/PK(S) ore during the first three years of production, continued Lamb.
