The revival of the art of engraving

The revival of the art of engraving

Rooted in myth, tradition, and gestures passed down through generations, the art of engraving reaffirms itself today as a precious form of craftsmanship, capable of preserving time. Often inspired by Greco-Roman iconography, ancient myths, and Renaissance atmospheres, this technique shapes unique pieces or limited editions, conceived to endure and convey an aesthetic that resists homogenization.

Skilled artisans carve shells, glass, corals, and silver, breathing life into classical figures, ancient symbols, and forgotten stories. Keeping the tradition alive are those who blend devotion to manual craftsmanship with a contemporary vision.

Cameo & Beyond is a prime example of this. The brand creates stunning pieces where the modernity of materials such as porcelain blends with ancient memories. Take, for instance, the “Cherub with Anfora” ring, featuring a cameo framed by luminous stones depicting a cherub holding an amphora. Similarly, Cameo Italiano revives the knowledge of the Neapolitan school of shell engraving, producing jewelry that celebrates classicism.

The Acropolis ring, hand-engraved and set in 925 silver, with an 18mm cameo recalling the architecture of the ancient world, exudes elegance and mastery.

Tagliamonte, in turn, has made engraving a cultural manifesto. The brand has skillfully rediscovered and revitalized forgotten techniques through collaborations with Venetian glass masters and the consultation of museum archives and archaeological sites throughout the Mediterranean basin. Its creations, including engravings on glass and stone, are rich with symbolic and historical references.

Each piece, whether a bespoke jewel or a daily pendant, evokes emotions destined to endure through time.
